Breeding lateral gaited (no trot) Joe to trotting mares may result in a happy medium of getting an easy gaited foal; or only a lateral gaited foal; or a trotting (only) foal.

My past experience with breeding easy gaited to trotting (non gaited) horses, is that the foals seemed to have an improved gait (rather than being a ground pounder).

Of trotting mares to an easy gaited stallion, the best results I have had was to those mares with the long sport horse type entended trot,  rather than the up & down choppy cart pony type trot.

JOE's maternal grandsire was only 10.1 hands tall, which should help to keep the foal's mature height within the 14.2 hand high limit of American Gaited Pony Registry.

Joe's parents were both black/white tobianos, but Joe himself has been DNA tested as not being a homozygous tobiano. Joe may be homozygous black tho, which would mean he'd never throw a red based (sorrel, chestnut or palomino) foal.
